Concordia Lutheran Church
Concordia, KS 66901

Thank you for your intrest in our church. We are a congregation that longs to build a closer relationship with our God in Christ and to rejoice in the fellowship he has given to us through our neighbors.
Who are we?
We are people gathered around Word and Sacrament, living in the grace that God has given us in his Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
What do we believe?
Our central belief is that we are saved solely by God’s grace (gift) through faith in Jesus Christ and his work on the cross for all of fallen (sinful) humanity. Living in that grace we are drawn by the Holy Spirit to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
What do we do?
-
We rejoice in God’s Gifts and seek to share them with our neighbors.
-
We have various women’s groups that meet throughout the month for Bible Study, fellowship, and service projects. There is also a men’s group that meets one a month for study and fellowship.
-
We Rejoice in our active chior, our praise band “Off Keys to the Kingdom” and the many people that share their talents to help in worship every week.
-
We enjoy an active Sunday School and Bible Study goups, and we rejoice in those willing to share their love of Christ with our learners (ages 3-93). We have a Bible School every summer that reaches out beyond our community to witness about God’s love and majesty in our life.
-
We reach out to the youngest (ages 3-5) through our Bright Beginnings Preschool.
-
In addition to this, we strive to be active in charitable work in Concordia with time, talent, and donations to the various groups that seek to help neighbors in an organized way.
Our History:
The Concordia Lutheran Church has been serving our community since 1941. It was a desire of Lutherans moving into town from surronding communities and the leadership of Pastor V.O. Aaker of Norway, Kansas that gave birth to our congregation that first met in City Hall located on the corner of Broadway and 6th in 1941. They organized as a congregation of the Evangelical Norwegian Lutheran Church ( later named simply the Evangelical Lutheran Church) in 1943 and built their own church after the war using material salvaged from the POW camp theater. Today we are a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the result of a merger in 1988 of three American Lutheran Denominations to come together as one Christian Lutheran body.
The ELCA is a member of the Lutheran World Federation and seeks closer ties of fellowship will all who call Jesus their Lord and Savior. We have thus been gladdened by fellowship agreements with the Moravian Church, Presbyterian Church USA, Reformed Church of America, United Church of Christ, Episcopal Church-USA and the United Methodist Church. This is lived out in communities across the nation and world as we strive together, not in competion, to further the love of Christ and the salvation only he can give.
